Meanwhile, another prisoner stated: “For years I felt isolated, thinking I was to blame for this situation, that my decisions, my spending choices caused this.
“It is so wrong the things I have had to say no to my children to, no to going here or there, no to joining the club they wanted to go to while growing up.
“The overtime that we both had to work to keep a roof over our children’s head, this is time that I cannot have back with them.”
SNP MP, Martin Docherty-Hughes, who led the briefing, estimated there are around 40,000 mortgage prisoners in Scotland alone.
