The Chartered Insurance Institute has apologised for an email error which saw exam results sent out by mistake.

On social media site X, one financial adviser shared a screenshot of three emails received on Thursday (July 25) asking the CII why he had received results to exams he took a year ago.

After promising to look into it, the CII issued an update on the situation this morning (July 26).

It said: "We are aware that some of our customers received emails in error yesterday, including some advising of the availability of new coursework results.

"These emails should be ignored. We will contact those who are expecting a result by email to advise them when to expect their outcome.

"We would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused."

The industry body runs training for financial services professionals and includes qualifications on financial planning, investments, protection and mortgages.

The CII did not respond to a request for further information on the error.

Earlier this week, the CII announced the appointment of three new group board members, each with a responsibility to provide a membership perspective in discussions and decision making.

Known as engagement board members, the three are Ben Rose, London markets; Roger Jackson, financial planning; and Suzy Middleton, personal finance.
