The proposals have raised questions over the future of open-ended property funds for retail investors.
Mr McDermott said he hoped there would be an announcement from the regulator soon so the sector could "move forward in whatever guise is necessary".

He added: "For diversification and income reasons I still believe the sector has a lot to offer investors."
